CTS, Christian Traditional School, is a private school based upon the foundation of teaching young children to become Christian leaders of tomorrow. There are three classrooms at CTS: PKI – 3-year-old class, PKII – 4-year-old class, and the kindergarten class.

General School Information

Prior to beginning school at CTS, your child should know his or her correct first and last name, how to put on and take off outdoor clothing and know how to tend toilet needs by him or herself. Prior to beginning kindergarten at CTS, your child should generally be able to recognize the letters of the alphabet and copy material from a blackboard.

At school your child should wear washable clothing for he or she will be working with paint, clay, crayons, chalk and paste. Choose clothing your child can manage alone, and that suits the weather and the season. If weather permits, activities may be done outside. All wraps, boots and other things brought to school should be labeled with your child’s name.

Your child should arrive at school and be picked up from school on time each day. A student is considered tardy if ten minutes late for school. Please refer to the CTS attendance policy at the end of this handbook for further explanation. Your child can only be picked up by someone listed on your child’s Student Information Form (on file at school). If someone other than the child’s parents will be picking him or her up, please send a written note. If the person picking up your child is unfamiliar to your child’s teacher, please instruct them to be able to provide identification. If you, the parent, will not be at your normal location for the day, please advise the teacher.

Although CTS will not begin until Tuesday, September 5, 2006 we will follow
the calendar of the Montgomery County School System for many of the holidays. If school is canceled in Montgomery Co. for snow, CTS will automatically close the first day only, and resume classes on the second day under normal conditions. It will also be announced on the local radio station (if possible), and Lexington TV stations Channel 27 & 36 as “CTS -- Mt. Sterling.” If there are any questions as to the re-opening of school due to additional bad weather, please feel free to call your child’s teacher or a Board member.

Attendance Policy

CTS will provide productive education and encourage progress of every student. In order to ensure this objective, prompt attendance is a requirement for all students at this school.

Students should arrive in the classroom no later than 10 minutes after the start of the class.

When a child has been tardy 3 times, the parent will be contacted. The parent will be given the opportunity to express any problems that have caused the recent tardiness. If there is an acceptable excuse, the child’s attendance record will be erased. If the tardiness is unexcused, the child will be allowed to be tardy 2 more times. After this has occured, action by the CTS Board may subject the student to additional disciplinary action, up to and including termination.

If a tardy child enters the classroom in a disruptive manner (i.e. taking attention away from the class instruction) the child will be subject to disciplinary action as outlined in our disciplinary procedure.
